And We're Back (October 28, 2011)
Comic is progressing nicely, although Ivan wasn't actually supposed to swear in that last installment. Astrozombie claims he was just "testing to see if I was paying attention" but I maintain that he $%&@ed up. We all make mistakes.
Well earlier today we were having a refined and dignified discussion about socioeconomics (read: swearing at each other and making racist jokes) when the subject of 3rd world countries came up. I had(mistakenly) referred to El Salvador as a third-world country.
You'll hear a lot of uneducated (stupid) people continue to use this term to describe various places, and it really is kind of a shame. The whole first world, second world, third world thing was basically a bunch of buzz-words made up by lazy news people. There has never been an actual, working metric perfected to compare Switzerland to Guatemala. And if you think there is, you're kind of a jerk.
That's why we now say "developing nations" to describe places that aren't America or the EAU. Which also still kind of makes us jerks.
Yeah, I'll rant about history another day.
